Claudia Moreno studio visit
Claudia Moreno is a visual artist born in Sonora, MX who is based out of Tijuana today. She is a member of the National System of Art Creators.
Claudia’s artistic practice explores themes of women and power, examining how gender roles in industries like medicine and cosmetics influence the public. Her work questions societal expectations around aging, violence, and childbirth, blending documentary images with abstract representations, using video and sound to engage with language. I am particularly interested in the ways aesthetic procedures to alter faces and bodies reinforce political power through social media and mass media.

Jill Holslin studio visit
Jill Marie Holslin (American, 1960) is a lens-based visual artist based on the border between Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico, and San Diego, USA. Her life straddling this border, always existing "in between," fosters a deep interest in the politics of land and belonging. In her artistic practice, Holslin explores the production of photographs and the relationship between embodiment and the photographic image.
Her current project incorporates family archives, documentary photographs, maps, and historical documents to situate her settler family history in relation to Dakota land in Minnesota. These historical sites, commemorated by monuments and state parks, embody struggles over meaning and the act of marking the land. Holslin is currently an MFA candidate in Art & Design at San Diego State University and has completed studies in contemporary art and photography through the independent Program of Contemporary Photography (PFC) in Mexico.
