In this 2021 Medium Festival of Photography artist talk, New Orleans-based photojournalist Abdul Aziz discusses his work covering the momentous events of 2020/2021 and the influences who helped shape his career. Aziz began working as an independent journalist nearly 15 years ago, today working for prestigious media outlets documenting events that are shaping all corners of the world. In his lecture, Abdul will look at his influences from the history of photography and speak about the photographs and events he continues to cover as we move into the post-Trump era.

Biography
Abdul Aziz, a freelance New Orleans based photojournalist brings a rich background of chronicling imagery of global communities, from the Middle East to Africa, Asia and the United States to his work. He has worked in documentary filmmaking worldwide for over a decade chronicling social issues related to race, exploitation of indigenous cultures, and unfair labor practices. He also produced the award winning documentary “Member of the Club”, a film about Black debutante society and culture in New Orleans.
